SUMMARY:October Impact Collaborative: State of Urgency: Understand Amendment 3 Before It's Too Late
DESCRIPTION:Your Attention is requested– to this Freedom from Violence pillar briefing honoring not only Domestic Violence Awareness Month\, but the investments necessary to keep us all safe. \nA property tax cut sounds like relief. For survivors\, it’s a countdown. For all of us\, it is necessary to know the consequences of our votes and act before it’s too late and critical services are lost. \nAmendment 3 would slash the local revenues that fund the safety net survivors rely on when they’re at their most vulnerable — not just concrete protections like shelters and first responders\, but the CBOs that provide the emergency services shelters can’t: housing assistance\, legal advocacy\, transportation to court\, food support\, childcare while a survivor rebuilds. When property tax revenue disappears\, so does the funding that keeps those organizations open. That’s not abstract. That’s a survivor with nowhere to turn. \nAnd the damage doesn’t stop there. Jackson Health absorbs the medical fallout of violence in our community  and stands to lose significant funding. Police\, fire\, and rescue — the first responders survivors call in crisis — are already sounding the alarm\, with the Florida Sheriffs Association\, Florida Fire Chiefs\, and Police Benevolent Association all issuing formal opposition. Add in cuts to libraries\, parks\, and transportation\, and what you get is a community with fewer places to be safe\, fewer ways to get help\, and fewer resources to survive on. \nJoin us for a keynote and panel conversation with survivor leaders\, first responders\, and service providers who will lay out — in plain terms — who gets hurt first when this funding disappears\, and what we can still do about it. \nThis event will have closed captioning available.
