Our Advocacy 104 Training in collaboration with the FIU Maurice A. Ferré Institute for Civic Leadership. During this vital training, attendees will learn from Ellyn Bogdanoff and Dr. Agatha Caraballo, experts in the field of advocacy and government affairs, how to advocate for issues affecting their communities by learning the necessary skills, tools, and strategies to be successful advocates! It is critical for community members to utilize their voices to promote a more equitable society and advocate for positive local and state changes.

PANELISTS

Ellyn Bogdanoff is a shareholder in Becker’s Government Law & Lobbying Practice. She joined the rm after serving over six years as a Member of the Florida House of Representatives and two years as a Florida State Senator. Having left public ofce in 2012, her knowledge, experience, and access to key decision makers are extremely valuable to her clients. Ellyn advocates on behalf of clients at both the state and local levels. She serves as Chair of Becker’s Sea Level Advisory Team, which provides clients with a comprehensive range of services to address ooding and other impacts of sea level rise. Ellyn also co-leads the rm’s Early Learning Advisory Group which assists childcare facilities in upholding their Gold Seal designation, contracting for school readiness or volunteer kindergarten services, and more. Ellyn has over 30 years in the business sector, owning her rst insurance business by the age of 21 and, after 16 years, selling her interest in her company. In 1997, she opened a corporate and local government consulting rm and later attended law school, graduating in 2003. She began her legal career as a litigator and is currently a Certied Circuit Civil and Family Mediator.

Dr. Caraballo is the Founding Director of the Maurice A. Ferré Institute for Civic Leadership and an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Public Policy and Administration in the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs at Florida International University (FIU). She is also an Affiliate Faculty in the African and African-Diaspora Studies program and the Master of Arts in Global Affairs degree program.

She is a Past Chair and former Treasurer of the Section for Women in Public Administration (SWPA) for the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA), as well as a past President of the ASPA South Florida Chapter. Dr. Caraballo also served as FIU’s inaugural Director of Teaching for the Black Faculty Association. She is proud to have organized numerous professional development events related to public service and leadership and to be recognized for exceptional teaching, mentorship, and service with several awards. Her online classes have received Quality Matters certification, a nationally recognized benchmark for high-quality distance education.

Dr. Caraballo holds Ph.D. in Public Affairs and Bachelor of Science in Communication degrees from FIU and an Associate of Arts in Communication from Santa Rosa Junior College in Northern California, where she was raised. Her professional background is in higher education, nonprofits, and leadership development. Dr. Caraballo and her husband, Leonel, are the proud parents of two children.
