PACE Center for Girls Miami / IT Women

Organization Description:

PACE Center for Girls Miami is an innovative prevention and intervention program that addresses the needs of girls from the ages of 11-17 who have suffered trauma and consequently are failing in school or at risk of becoming involved in the Juvenile Justice System. PACE Center for Girls Miami provides small classroom instruction, one-on-one counselling, case management, health and wellness coaching, and positive decision making to help empower PACE Miami girls to realize their true and full potential.

IT Women is a volunteer-based, non-profit organization founded in 2002 by senior-level business women across technology industries. ITWomen strives to narrow the gender gap in the fields of technology and engineering and to provide professional development, student education and scholarships through a supportive network.

Project Description:

PACE Center for Girls Miami, in collaboration with IT Women, will deliver an interactive Robotics and STEM Program to inspire PACE Miami Girls to seek economic empowerment through high growth, high impact careers in the tech field. The program will be offered to all 60 girls at PACE in a series of three, six-week workshops facilitated by IT Women Robotics Program Instructors. Each workshop will instruct the girls on how to write code, program, and build a functioning robot. In addition, workshops will include speakers in STEM fields and field trips to STEM-related organizations.
