Women’s Emergency Network
Organization Description:
Women’s Emergency Network (WEN) was founded to protect the right of low-income women in South Florida to access all options concerning their reproductive health care. including counseling, education, and safe and legal termination when necessary. The guiding principle that drives WEN is the idea that every woman, regardless of means, should have not only the right but the ability to choose if and when she becomes a mother.
Project Description:
The LARC (long-acting reversible contraception) Program focuses on the medical services associated with providing IUDs, which have been proven to be the most effective and economical means of long-term birth control. Working with partners including the University of Miami Hospital, FIU’s Medical Students for Choice, and the Miami Workers Center, WEN will ensure that indigent and low-income women, especially those who have just undergone termination procedures, will be able to receive these devices. The ability to access effective contraception and make family planning choices is an important tool for women achieving long-term financial security.
